by Dra. Valléria Roque e Dra. Angélica Ferreira
The patient with lipedema disappears: she attends three or four sessions, vanishes from the practice, does not return for post-operative follow-up, abandons the eating plan. This course proposes the reverse reading: the patient does not fail the treatment, because she does not know the treatment — it is the professional who knows it. It consists of four classes recorded at Lipedema Evolution 2026, led by psychologist Valléria Roque, from Lisbon, and physiotherapist Angélica Ferreira: what psychoeducation is and why it begins with the professional, how to read non-verbal communication and gaslighting, the matrix that separates the disease-centred approach from the narrative-centred approach, managing guilt and relapse, the phased physiotherapy protocol that treats without causing pain, the use of photographs and circumference measurements against body image distortion, real case studies, and the numbers from a cohort that reduced dropout by 57% from one year to the next. By the end, the professional has a consultation script, a vocabulary for translating clinical language, criteria for recognizing the risk of dropout, and a set of interventions that sustain treatment over time. Includes a PDF handbook (46 pages) and an English-dubbed version.
