A vascular surgeon and co-founder of the Lipedema Evolution Congress, Dr. Alexandre Amato is Brazil's most prolific lipedema researcher, with more than 15 indexed papers published between 2020 and 2025. A pioneer in ultrasound diagnosis of the disease in Brazil, he was lead author of the 2021 study published in Phlebology — the most cited study in the country on lipedema diagnosis — and led the Brazilian Lipedema Consensus (SBACV, 2025), with 90 statements evaluated by 113 experts. Founder of the Amato Instituto de Medicina Avançada in São Paulo, he has authored the world's only publications on HLA-DQ2/DQ8, ADHD, and lipedema in men.
